As part of the Centenary Celebrations Girlguiding have teamed up with charities and created 19 different projects so we can change the world! This involves:
Raising awareness,
Raising money,
Taking direct action.
For our project we chose HELP THE HOSPICE.
Our local hospice is Pendleside Hospice
The national symbol for the hospice is a sunflower.
The values of the Hospice are LIVE,LOVE & LET GO.
We have done some activities:
LIVE : Times I have felt.....
When things happen to us we feel different things.
We made faces using biscuits and sweets to show how we felt and then everyone talked about why, afterwards we ate them!
LOVE : I Love my friend because...
Understanding why friends and friendship is important.
We had a pow-wow and everyone said what their best friend was called, how they knew them and why they were friends, even the Owls! Everyone had different friends some were their mums, some were from school, next door neighbours or from another activity they do(both boys and girls),and some were other Brownies.
We then made a card with their name on the front, drew and stuck pictures on that showed our friendships.Inside we wrote a message and signed our names. We took them home to give them to our friends.
LET GO : Lights to remember...
Many people light a candle to remember loved ones or pets that are far away or have died.
The hospice holds a Light for a Life fundraiser every christmas.
We made tea light holders from clay, once they were dry we then painted, glittered and varnished them.
The following week we had a special lighting ceremony and spent a moment remembering family, friends and pets we were missing
FUNDRAISING: Coffee and Cake Evening.
We decided to have a coffee and cake evening for friends and relatives to raise money for Pendleside hospice.
We made invitations, then decorated plant pots and made tissue paper flowers for table decorations. We made menus and signs for the raffle,'just for fun' brownie quiz, cards, brownie actvities and colouring sheets for little brothers and sisters that came. Lots of people came and it was very busy- thankyou for your support.
Thankyou also to Bridges Greengrocers,Padiham Rd for the lovely fruit basket , W.H.Oddies,Padiham Rd for the wonderful party cake voucher and Asda Burnley for the bottle of Baileys donated for our raffle.
